Dr. Burens is a dedicated optometrist who enjoys partnering with patients to protect and enhance their vision at every stage of life. She provides comprehensive eye care, from routine exams to the management of complex eye conditions, and values the opportunity to connect eye health with each patient’s overall well-being. What drives her most about optometry is the privilege of walking alongside patients in their health journeys, using her advanced training to make a meaningful difference in their daily comfort and long-term sight. She brings particular expertise in surgical co-management for procedures such as cataract surgery, LASIK, and PRK, as well as in caring for patients with diabetes, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and challenging dry eye concerns.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Burens earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from The Ohio State University, graduating magna cum laude. She then completed a dual degree program at Ohio State, achieving both her Master of Science in Vision Science and her Doctor of Optometry degree with summa cum laude honors, and she earned the top national board score in her field. During her optometric training, she received multiple awards recognizing her accomplishments in research, clinical care, and academics, reflecting her commitment to excellence that now benefits her patients every day. She has held leadership roles in organizations including Ocular Disease, Lions Club, Low Vision Rehabilitation, the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA), and SVOSH, and she is a member of the Beta Kappa Sigma Honor Society and the American Optometric Association Leadership Society, earning Student Fellow distinction through the American Academy of Optometry. She continues her professional involvement as a member of the American Optometric Association, the Connecticut Association of Optometrists, and the Norwalk Lions Club.
What drives me most about optometry is the privilege of being a partner in my patients' health journeys, whether that's through routine care or managing complex conditions. The eyes truly are windows to overall health, and I'm passionate about using my training and experience to make a meaningful difference in each person's life.
